The Stephen Foster Story celebrates its 60th season in 2018 and Lifestyle Tours will be going to opening night on Saturday, June 9.
The outdoor drama follows the life of Stephen Collins Foster through his life in the 19th century. He paved the road for future songwriters and the drama features fifty of his compositions. "Oh! Susanna", "Camptown Races", "Beautiful Dreamer" are some of the highlights. Of course the Kentucky Anthem "My Old Kentucky Home" is a centerpiece of the show. Since 1959 audiences have been entertained by music and song and have have been delighted by the costumes as well.
What makes the tour unique is that this is opening night of the 60th season and our group will enjoy the annual Opening Night BBQ Dinner on the lawn of My Old Kentucky Home State Park. It's a celebration of the history and culture of the Commonwealth and our guests are invited to be a part of this annual event.
Before arriving in Bardstown the group will take part in the 12th Annual Frankfort Home and Garden Tour and enjoy lunch in the beautiful setting of the Frankfort Country Club.
On Sunday the group will visit two more interesting historical sites. The Abbey at Gethsemani. Trappist Monks have lived and prayed here for 150 years. The Visitor Center relates the story of life here and the gift shop offers unique gifts and goodies. Thomas Merton was part of this community from 1941 to 1968 and is buried in the Abbey's cemetery.
Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park On this site on February 12,1809, the 16th president was born. The Visitor Center tells the story of the significance of this site and the "symbolic birth cabin" is enshrined in the granite and marble First Lincoln Memorial
